Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist & Life Coach
Teenagers
Life can be tough for teenagers. They face a host of issues, including peer conflict, academic stressors, bullying, peer pressure, and hormonal changes. In addition, they are bombarded by the media with messages telling them they are not good enough, attractive enough, muscular enough, skinny enough, or cool enough. Balancing the demands of family, friends and school can overwhelm a teen. Therapy can be a very helpful place for teenagers to feel safe enough to explore their identity, values, and interests, all while exploring their place in the world.
When I work with teenagers I typically address and assess the following issues:
- Low self esteem and insecurities
- Peer pressure
- Academic pressure
- Parental conflict
- How to establish independence responsibly
- Drugs and alcohol
- Depression
- Self harm (cutting, suicidal thoughts or tendencies)
